Upcoming Berger Picard Club Canada Events
2019 National Berger Picard Specialty in Long Sault, ON
Berger Picard Club Canada will be holding a National Specialty in Long Sault,Ontario on August 24th, 2019. The dog show, hosted by the SD&G Dog Association, is held at the Woodlands campgrounds in Long Sault (details below) and our Judge will be Mr. Michael Faulkner from Virginia, USA (details below). We believe a national specialty is much more than just a dog show exclusive to a particular breed - we believe it is a rare opportunity, once every two or three years, for admirers and devotees of a particular breed to come together and celebrate their breed, inside and outside of the ring.
Therefore, our goal is to make the event as accessible as possible to all Picard lovers by choosing a place which you and your dog will enjoy, and by planning activities that everyone can participate in. As the weeks go by, we will be posting more and more information on activities that will be offered. One thing I can tell you right now is that we have requested an unofficial class for the specialty - amusing but very representative of our Picards - in which absolutely everyone can participate, no physical ability or handling experience required. All you will need is a Picard! We already have booked the gathering place where the BP’s welcome tent will be. It is strategically place between the conformation rings and the performance sports rings, just by the dog beach. This is where we will hold our evening social event. Much fun, laugher, stories, and even maybe music is to be expected!
The 24th of August might seem far off, but I highly suggest that you book your hotel or camping spot as soon as possible. The SD&G all breed Show is the biggest outdoor dog show in Ontario, and good places go fast. If you want to camp here is the link to the Woodlands campground; http://www.stlawrenceparks.com/camping/campgrounds/long-sault-parkway/woodlands-campground/ . This campground has many campsites right on the river and more inland with beautiful, mature trees for shade. Attached is a map of where the activities of the dog show will take place.
If you would rather stay in a hotel/motel here are a few suggestions. Please make sure the hotel will accept your dog when you make your reservation. Some hotels may have limits in size or number of dogs:

Now that you know where to stay during the weekend, let me tell you a little bit about our specialty judge Mr. Michael Faulkner. Mr. Faulkner is a third generation breeder/judge, bred his first litter at age nine, judged his first AKC sanctioned match at age sixteen, he is an award winning author/columnist for Dog News and has judged over 800 dog shows. Certainly a very impressive resumé, but the most important reason we asked Mr. Faulkner to do us the honour of judging our specialty is based on his personal values even more than on his experience. All of the comments we found on this judge talked about his kindness towards newcomers to the sport, his deep sense of integrity, his contagious love of dogs, and his willingness to share his knowledge. These qualities truly resonate with us as individuals and as a club,
Talking about experience and knowledge, we will be very fortunate to have Mrs. Linda St-Hilaire assisting Mr. Faulkner as ring steward for the specialty. Many of you already know Mrs. St-Hilaire as the Quebec representative for the Canadian Kennel Club. She also was born into the dog world - breeder, owner, handler, judge, mentor, dog show organizer are only a few challenges she has taken on over the years. She is also very active in advocating for dog rights at the municipal level as well as at the provincial and national levels. I think we have a great team to make our specialty a memorable experience for everyone.

We truly hope to see you there on August 24th!

Our Annual Berger Picard Gathering - September 2017
In September 2017, we enjoyed our annual Berger Picard gathering at the CKC show in Terrebonne, Quebec. Many of the dogs participated in the conformation show, and Best of Breed was awarded to Edan de la Vallee d'Ottawa. Among all of the Picards present, we also had four sweet baby puppies make their debut in the conformation ring along! One Picard took part in the Agility trials, and three of our delightful Picards earned their Canine Good Neighbour certification. Others took advantage of the opportunity to have their dogs' eyes tested at the OFA eye clinic held on site. The afternoon wrapped up with a costume party that prompted lots of laughter and enjoyment by all. Many thanks to everyone who participated!!
Our First Berger Picard National Specialty - August 2016
Our first CKC National Specialty was held in Quebec City on August 6th, 2016. We were very privileged to have M. Christian Jouanchicot from France as our specialty judge. The event was held in conjunction with the Société Canine de Québec show, which also included Rally Obedience events as well as a booster for the Berger Picard on Sunday. We welcomed 25 Berger Picards and their families to this historic event, many travelling from across Canada and the United States to attend. We enjoyed meeting new friends and old, sharing stories as well as delicious food and drink in the comfort of our hospitality tent. A Meet the Breed booth was set up for other show attendees who were interested in learning about our remarkable breed, and judges' education was offered. Our first National Specialty was a huge success, thanks to the contributions and participation of everyone involved! Congratulations to all!! Below is a listing of our National Specialty winners, a video created by one of our members, and a photo album showing some of the many special moments of the weekend. Thank you very much to Libert Renaud Photos, Martin Bourget and Eric Melanson for many of these beautiful pictures.
